Australians continue to demonstrate a lack of knowledge about, and trust in, our largest neighbour, Indonesia. Only 39% of Australians agree that ‘Indonesia is a democracy’. One in three Australians (32%) has confidence in Indonesian President Joko Widodo, and trust in Indonesia to act responsibly in the world has fallen to its lowest point in Lowy Institute polling: 36% say they trust Indonesia, a 16-point fall from 2017.
